Two Brentford players were left bloodied after stepping in to stop an alleged assault in Richmond that was reportedly racially motivated in the early hours of Sunday.
Telegraph Sport reports that the pair were travelling home from Saturday’s goalless draw at Leeds United when they came across a man being attacked.
The incident is understood to have occurred on Queen’s Road at around 2:00am. The players intervened to calm the situation before police arrived. Neither required medical treatment and both were unharmed.
Officers attended and engaged with the victim. An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
Members of the squad had been allowed to make their own way home after the Elland Road fixture, the last before the international break. The two players were among those returning independently from Yorkshire. Their identities have not been disclosed, though both are understood to be first-team players.
Brentford have declined to comment.
