Voetbal International reports that Manchester United explored a move for Brian Brobbey before the striker joined Sunderland last summer. The report adds he had already declined a 2022 switch under Erik ten Hag, when a fee around £34 million was discussed.
Brobbey arrived from Ajax late in the window for about £17 million, potentially rising by £4 million. The 23-year-old has settled and become a key figure under Régis Le Bris.
He has five goals and one assist in 21 Premier League outings, and has led the line through the second half of the campaign. The report says Sunderland moved quickly after plans changed, with Marc Guiu, initially on loan from Chelsea, recalled before the deadline following Liam Delap’s injury.
It further notes that Brobbey rejected interest from Como last summer before opting for Wearside. Le Bris has since praised the forward’s growing confidence, pressing and defensive work, and the way he is linking with team-mates while scoring.
Separately, TEAMtalk reports that Sunderland are among clubs monitoring Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, who is set to be a free agent this summer after deciding against a new deal. Sunderland have held talks with his representatives, while Barcelona lead the chase and Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Napoli are also interested.
