Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur remain in talks over the transfer of Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke.
Brighton have turned down two unspecified bids from the North Londoners for Van Hecke, as Roberto De Zerbi plots a reunion with Van Hecke at Spurs.
The 25-year-old has just 12 months to run on his contract at the Amex Stadium, though Brighton are determined to receive a significant sum.
Van Hecke was named as the Seagulls’ Player of the Season in 2024/25 and has impressed in the Premier League with his progressive passing and carries from deep.
Van Hecke is understood to be keen on the move, and has agreed personal terms with Tottenham, where he could replace Cristian Romero. The latter is keen to leave Tottenham this summer after becoming frustrated with the club’s project. There is interest in Romero from Spain, with Atletico Madrid heavily linked.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Spurs are undeterred by the rejection of their opening bids and are set to return with an improved offer.
Van Hecke could partner compatriot Micky van de Ven in De Zerbi’s new-look side, while both players are currently with the Netherlands at this summer’s World Cup.
Spurs want to make the Dutchman their third summer signing, after finalising free transfer deals for Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi.
