Brighton and Hove Albion aim to revive their European charge against the Premier League’s bottom club Wolves on Saturday.
The Seagulls enter the weekend just two points adrift of sixth place with three games left. Fabian Hurzeler has recently signed a new long-term contract following an admirable revival at the Amex. His side has won six of their last nine matches to stay in European contention. A victory today is essential to keep their top-seven hopes alive before the season concludes.
Brighton have already netted 49 goals during this Premier League season and seek one more for a milestone. Reaching 50 strikes would see them achieve the feat for the fourth consecutive top-flight year. Their recent home form is impressive, having beaten Liverpool and Chelsea by a combined 5–1 score. The Seagulls have only lost one of sixteen games against sides currently in the relegation zone. Hurzeler will demand a ruthless performance to bounce back from the disappointment at St James’ Park.
Fabian Hurzeler faces a late decision on Mats Wieffer following a small ankle issue earlier this week. The midfielder has been a key figure recently, notably bagging a brace against Burnley last month. Diego Gomez will also be assessed, though Hurzeler insists he will not risk the player’s long-term health.
In his absence, James Milner and Solly March provide experienced alternatives for the matchday squad tonight. Both players are officially back in contention and represent a significant boost for the manager.
Captain Lewis Dunk has completed a full week of training and is pushing for a start at centre-back. He missed the Newcastle defeat but is now considered fit to lead the team at the Amex. Danny Welbeck remains a vital part of the attack with 14 goal involvements during this campaign.
He is currently enjoying his best-ever Premier League return at the age of thirty-five. That said, Hurzeler must decide if he starts Jack Hinshelwood in a more advanced role again.
Brighton predicted XI: Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Boscagli, Kadioglu; Ayari, Gross; Minteh, Hinshelwood, Mitoma; Welbeck.
The Premier League encounter at the American Express Stadium kicks off at 15:00 BST on Saturday.
This match is not available for live broadcast in the UK due to the 3:00 PM blackout.
