Pedro has missed two matches since international break but could return to face Forest

Joao Pedro is pushing to prove his fitness in time to feature for Brighton against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Brazilian made a strong start to the new season, scoring against Manchester United and Arsenal, but picked up a knock while on international duty and has since missed Brighton’s last two matches.

Pedro was not in the squad for the draw with Ipswich or the midweek Carabao Cup win over Wolves, but was expected to train ahead of Forest’s visit to the south coast this weekend.

“He will train today with the team and then we have to see how it’s going, if he can train fully, if he can do all the movements,” Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler said at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Of course we won’t take any risk but he will be part of the training today.”

Danny Welbeck is set to lead the line once again, with Pedro playing behind him if passed fit. Should he miss out, Georginio Rutter should get the nod to start.

Ferdi Kadioglu is an option to come in at left-back should Hinshelwood drop out, but there are otherwise not expected to be many changes from the side that was held by Ipswich a week ago.
