One of Liverpool's top talents has been labelled 'once in a century' by Jürgen Klopp. He's destined for super stardom.
Jürgen Klopp stepped aside from Liverpool in 2024, ending one of the greatest eras in the club's history. Now it's Arne Slot's turn - and it certainly started well.
The Dutchman delivered the Premier League title in year one, but then something quite strange happened. Liverpool decided to overhaul their squad, ripping up a title-winning group with an enormous amount of movement.
Over £200m arrived in sales, while over £450m was spent on new players. It's something Klopp certainly never saw happen when he was in charge.
He's essentially witnessed Slot have a squad built for him in ways Klopp never did. It's the benefit of the growth Liverpool went through under the Germany, really, and it's seen genuine superstars arrive.
One of those is Florian Wirtz, which is arguably the biggest transfer Liverpool have ever made. They saw off elite competition to sign one of the world's most sought-after players.
Despite the hype, Wirtz hasn't quite hit the ground running. He's put in some decent performances and you can see the quality, but that hasn't brought too much 'production' in the way of goals.
That's a surprise, given Wirtz is one of only two players across Europe's top five leagues to have managed double digits for both goals and assists in each of the last two seasons. The other being Mo Salah, of course.
Klopp, however, doesn't believe there's anything to worry about. He's discussed Wirtz and his overall quality, believing his compatriot will inevitably be a success at Anfield.
"I don't have to worry about Florian Wirtz because the quality is so outstanding. Of course, everything is good and everyone knows that. The discussion will certainly be a bit inflated," he said, per Goal.
The ex-Liverpool boss then said Wirtz is "a talent of the century and at some point he will show it again in every game, as he did at Leverkusen" before adding "if anyone is worried - you don't have to! You can stop it.”
It's about as confident as you can be about a player and with good reason. Wirtz undoubtedly is a sensational talent and one very few clubs can boast.
Give him time and he'll show it beyond doubt.
