FC Bayern are making a surprising change at left-back, with Vincent Kompany apparently increasingly opting for new solutions
For a long time, Alphonso Davies was regarded as one of the undisputed key players in Vincent Kompany’s system. The Canadian’s enormous speed in particular impressed the Bayern coach. Internally, it was repeatedly emphasized how important Davies was with his pace in order to secure dangerous spaces behind the defensive line
Accordingly, for months there was little need to look intensively at alternatives for the left side of defence. However, this assessment has now changed. According to Sport BILD, Nathaniel Brown has now become Munich’s preferred candidate for the left-back position
According to the report, there was already a personal meeting between Vincent Kompany and the Frankfurt defender after the end of last season, during which the Bayern coach is said to have explained to the 22-year-old his sporting ideas and the role he envisages for Brown in Munich
The professional from Eintracht Frankfurt is now considered the number one transfer target for the left side of defense and, according to those responsible, should be signed this summer if possible
According to Sport BILD, the most important reason for the change of heart lies in the development of the past two years, during which time Davies was repeatedly set back by injuries. Cruciate ligament ruptures, torn muscle fibres and thigh problems caused the Canadian to miss a total of 71 competitive matches
These absences are said to have led to a change in Kompany’s thinking, with the Belgian becoming increasingly convinced that FC Bayern’s defense could also function successfully without Davies and that the team was not necessarily dependent on his qualities
Although Davies only extended his long-term contract until 2030 around 16 months ago, a sale can no longer be ruled out
There is also the financial component. According to Sport BILD, Davies will receive an estimated annual salary of between 15 and 20 million euros. In addition, Bayern are said to have paid a hand money of around 22 million euros as part of the contract extension

There are apparently already interested parties. According to the report, representatives of several Saudi clubs have approached Säbener Straße to sound out possible conditions for a transfer. However, no concrete negotiations or a concrete offer have yet been made
Bayern have already set their sights on Brown as a potential successor, and developments suggest that one of the most exciting personnel issues of Munich’s summer transfer window could be decided at left-back in the coming weeks.
