Michael Brown hailed City’s dramatic, last-gasp 2-1 win at Wolves on Sunday as the very stuff title triumphs are made off.

With the game locked at 1-1 and Pep Guardiola’s side seemingly consigned to settling for a point, John Stones delivered when it mattered most, heading in a dramatic 95th minute winner that was initially disallowed before being allowed following a VAR check.

It was breathless conclusion to our first game back after the October international break – and yet another example of City’s capacity to fight until the very last kick of the game.

And for former City midfielder and Matchday Live co-commentator Brown, the significance of this latest win was one that could not be overstated.

“Yes, the ending was strange but it’s about going on the road, getting results and that was a title-winning performance,” Brown declared.

“It just felt like a big game.

“You look at the situation - how do you grind out results and do what you need to do to find an answer to win the game and they found an answer.

“Coming out of the international break is always a tough one. Get the result and then you can build on it.”

Though Guardiola’s side dominated in terms of possession, territory and chances created, Wolves belied their position at the foot of the table to put up a dogged determined display of their own.

Having taken an early lead through Jorgen Strand Larsen, the hosts threatened again before Josko Gvardiol levelled affairs for City with a stunning strike.

Despite knocking on the door on countless occasions it appeared as though the game was heading for a draw before Stones’ late, late impact.

“It was tight, it was chess, and you have to give full credit to a Wolves team who have been conceding goals,” Brown added.

“They changed, they were hard to beat, and they then tried to counter quickly where possible and played in the right areas

“It was Pep’s belief, it was about patience and building and then we will go longer [if needed] and, obviously, it ended with that set-piece at the end.

“City controlled the game for sure but just couldn’t find a way through.

“But football gives you such incredible highs and lows. It was an unbelievable end to the game.”
