Manchester United face an anxious wait after head coach Ruben Amorim confirmed Bruno Fernandes (31) has suffered soft tissue damage and is set to miss “some games” following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Fernandes was forced off during the first half at Villa Park after pulling up in visible discomfort, with Lisandro Martinez introduced at the interval. The United captain’s absence was keenly felt as the visitors struggled to impose control in midfield during a damaging loss.
Speaking after the match, Amorim conceded the early signs point towards a frustrating lay-off for his most influential player. “I think it’s soft tissue so it’s going to be a while,” he said, speaking to the media after the game.“He can recover quite well but I don’t know. We will see.”
Fernandes’ potential absence comes at an awkward moment for United, with the festive schedule offering little respite and key fixtures approaching in quick succession.
Compounding the issue, Amorim also confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo remains unavailable after missing the Villa match with a minor injury. With both midfielders sidelined, the United head coach acknowledged the challenge ahead.
“Kobbie Mainoo is out and Bruno is out,” Amorim said. “We will find solutions.”
