This comes in the aftermath of United losing 3-1 at Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Newcastle battled well in the first half and led 1-0 at the break thanks to Harvey Barnes’s quality goal, which was to prove the only shot on target all match for Eddie Howe’s side.

Things really fell apart in the second half though, Brentford scoring three goals, Dan Burn sent off, one very dubious penalty award overturned by VAR.

A second and arguably even more dubious penalty award went somehow unchallenged by the VAR, leading to the home side going 2-1 ahead and at the same time Burn’s second yellow and subsequent red.

However, the reality was that Brentford were by far the better and more threatening team and fully deserved this win.

United now head into the November international break 14th in the Premier League with 12 points from 11 games, two points off the relegation zone.

Bruno Guimaraes message to Newcastle United fans via his personal social media after Brentford – 9 November 2025:

“In almost four years at the club, we are going through perhaps one of the toughest moments.

“Just like in life, we can’t always be at the top.

“But in times like this we need to stick together and never let go of each others’ hands.

“The first part of the season didn’t go as expected and after the break we need to find the chemistry that has guided us all this time until now.

“I can assure you we are just as sad as you, the fans.”

My thoughts

A tough day all round for everybody associated with Newcastle United.

Bruno Guimaraes has proved to be a great choice by Eddie Howe as NUFC Captain and a case of everybody now pulling together, both fans and those inside the club, to turn around this poor start to the league season.
