The Red Devils hope the Brentford winger can join them for preseason on Tuesday
Bryan Mbeumo has taken another step closer to completing his £71million transfer from Brentford to Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been pursuing the player for quite some time as Ruben Amorim looks to overhaul his ailing front line.
Standard Sport reported earlier this week that an agreement had been reached following weeks of negotiations.
United saw two offers rejected as Brentford refused to budge from their valuation - which they bumped up after Arsenal invested £52m in Chelsea’s Noni Madueke.
The agreed deal comprises of a £65m upfront fee, with £6m in performance-based add-ons, marking a record sale for the Bees.
And the move is now closer to completion than ever.
Mbeumo today completed his Man United medical and ‘formalised’ the details of his new five-year contract, according to Sky Sports.
The club expect papers to be signed in time for the Cameroon international to join United on their preseason tour of the United States.
They will fly out on Tuesday for friendly meetings with West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton, before capping pre-season by facing Fiorentina at Old Trafford in August.
Brentford stand to make a significant return on their initial investment for the player, whom they signed from Troyes for just £4m in 2019.
Once the deal is completed, United will turn their attention to signing a centre-forward.
Rasmus Hojlund struggled to impress last season, finding the back of the net just four times in 32 Premier League appearances, and Amorim is keen to upgrade from the Dane.
They are prepared to go toe-to-toe with Arsenal in that pursuit, earmarking both Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko as targets.
The Gunners are understood to have been in talks for both players, but have tipped Sporting’s Gyokeres as their preferred target, opening the door for United to poach Sesko.
The 22-year-old Slovenia international hit 13 Bundesliga goals last season and is thought to be available for around £70m.
Other targets include Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike, though the latter is expected to join Liverpool in the coming days.
