Former Brentford winger made long-awaited debut on Sunday
Ruben Amorim said that Bryan Mbeumo fared well on debut as Manchester United drew 2-2 with Everton.
The Cameroon international made his bow in a United shirt after his £65million move from Brentford last month.
He lined up alongside fellow new arrival Matheus Cunha, and Amorim wants to continue to strengthen his attacking options as United pursue RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
The Red Devils won two and drew one in their three games Stateside, and Mbeumo impressed with his touch and dynamism in the attacking third of the pitch, linking up well with Cunha and club captain Bruno Fernandes in an interchanging front trio.
He also combined nicely with right wing-back Amad Diallo, sliding the Ivorian in behind a number of times as he moved infield to create space and numerical overloads.
"He played well,” Amorim said of his latest signing.
“He needs to understand the position, the movements, but [his] first touch, the way you connect with one touch, open[ing] a lot of space. You can see he's not in perfect condition, physically, but he makes a lot of runs and that can stretch a team."
The Portuguese head coach was well aware that although his side looked impressive going forwards, there was still work to be done at the back, as demonstrated by Everton’s two goals in Atlanta, Georgia.
The United manager did insist as well that he was content with his current crop of players, having alienated those he deemed surplus to requirements, such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony.
"Of course, one team can also always improve with more players, but we have players to make that competition,” Amorim continued. “We need to improve as a team. We have potential to improve with our players. I'm really happy with the squad."
United now travel back home to face Fiorentina at Old Trafford next weekend in their final warm-up match before the Premier League campaign kicks off for real in a fortnight’s time.
The Red Devils host Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 17, where Mikel Arteta’s side will have plenty of new faces on show, including their big-money signings Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and Martin Zubimendi among them.
