Manchester United were swept aside in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Having come off a 3-2 win over Burnley, Ruben Amorim’s team had the wings knocked out of their sails against their bitter rivals, putting up an incredibly poor attacking performance devoid of sufficient scoring opportunities.
In fact, it took them until the hour mark to get their second shot of the match, showing how nonexistent their final product was for most of the contest.
Still, there was one player who seemed to provide some hope up top, namely Bryan Mbeumo.
Hungry for goals
While shooting did not seem to be on his teammates’ minds, Mbeumo seemed determined to find the back of the net. He unleashed a threatening volley that almost found the back of the net, only for the goalkeeper to tip it around the far post with his fingers.
He took another three shots, albeit all off target.
Still, with four shots out of United’s 13, Mbeumo was undoubtedly his team’s biggest threat up front.
Struggling for accuracy
Not every aspect of Mbeumo’s game was pristine, however.
He only managed to complete 33 of his 42 passes, for a 79% accuracy.
Only one of his five crosses was accurate, although his only long ball managed to find its target.
Mbeumo won just one of six ground duels, along with one of four aerial duels, meaning that he was far from his best physically.
Ultimately, the Cameroonian had a mixed performance. Still, he was one ofthe few United players to actually seem determined to find a way past the City defence – an attitude that will hopefully rub off on his teammates over time.
