Harry Kane's goals will fire Bayern to another win
Freiburg v Heidenheim Saturday 08 February, 14:30
When the long-serving Christian Streich stepped down from his role as Freiburg coach in the summer, there were understandably fears that the Black Forest side may fall away, having overachieved season after season. Streich's former captain and then assistant coach Julian Schuster picked up the baton, and the transition has been smooth.
Although Freiburg have found life tough against the big hitters (they have lost twice to Bayern, and been beaten by Dortmund, Frankfurt, Leverkusen and Stuttgart) they have done far better against bottom-half sides. They are also strong on home soil, having taken maximum points at Europa Park Stadion six times this season.
Freiburg are 1.8 to win here against Heidenheim, and that feels to me like one of the most attractive bets of the weekend. Heidenheim are suffering from a serious case of second-season syndrome, as having qualified for Europe at the end of their first ever Bundesliga campaign, they are now fighting against relegation. Frank Schmidt's men are in the relegation playoff spot, having lost 14 of their 20 league matches.
Heidenheim have lost six of their last seven away games in the league, and they have a Conference League playoff on the horizon, so they may be a little distracted. To make matters worse, FCH's former hero Niklas Beste, who delivered a ton of goals from set plays last season, may play against them this weekend after signing for Freiburg.
I'm more than happy to back the home win.
Bayern Munich v Werder Bremen Friday 07 February, 19:30Live on Sky Sports
With a trip to title rivals Bayer Leverkusen on the horizon, it's important that Bayern at least maintain their six-point lead at the top of the table. In fact, with Leverkusen facing a tricky trip to Wolfsburg this weekend, there's every chance that the Bavarian giants will have an eight or nine-point advantage as they visit the BayArena.
Bayern have won all but one of their home matches in the league, and although they had a weird wobble against Holstein Kiel last weekend (they conceded twice in stoppage time in a 4-3 win), they have won all five of their league games in 2025. Vincent Kompany's men have the best attack and the best defence in the division, and they are in position to do some serious damage against Werder Bremen.
Werder picked up an eye-catching 1-0 win over Mainz last Friday, but the win came at a cost. Defender Niklas Stark was sent off for timewasting near the end (he got a second yellow card), and then his captain Marco Friedl followed him down the tunnel after protesting that decision too vigorously. Coach Ole Werner completed the triumvirate of shame, as he was then sent off or haranguing the referee Martin Petersen.
That leaves Werder a bit light on defensive personnel, not least because Argentinian Julian Malatini is out injured. It's not an ideal scenario when you are preparing to face the best attack in the league.
I'll use the Sportsbook's Bet Builder to back Bayern to win by two goals or more, Bayern to earn seven or more corners and Harry Kane to score at a combined price of 17/10. Bayern have won the most corners in the league at an average of 6.8 per game, Kane has scored 55 goals in his first 50 games as a Bundesliga player, and Bayern won the reverse fixture 5-0. Bayern have managed seven home wins by a multiple-goal margin in the league this term.
Holstein Kiel v BochumSaturday 08 February, 14:30Live on Sky Sports
A clash between the bottom two is always going to be important, but given that neither Holstein Kiel nor Bochum have yet been cut adrift, Sunday's showdown takes on even more significance.
Newly-promoted Kiel are on their best run of the season, with seven points collected from six matches. Although they lost 4-3 at Bayern last week, they remarkably fought back from 4-0 down in the second half, and gave the rekordmeister a nasty scare. The Storks have now scored in 16 of their 20 league games, and it's that firepower that might keep them up.
One of their best attacking players is young striker Phil Harres, who has scored seven goals in his last 11 outings. He was playing in the fourth tier last term, although it's always worth including in that story that he was a youth at both Borussia Dortmund and Bochum, so he hasn't completely appeared from nowhere.
His old side Bochum are rock bottom, and they have taken just one point from their last 11 away games at this level, conceding an eye-watering 30 goals in the process. I believe Harres will get chances to score against them, and he's worth backing to score at 9/5.
