Burkina Faso Cup 2026: ASFA Yennenga to face EFO, a look back at the last 10 years
The round of 16 of the 2026 Burkina Faso Cup kicks off on February 11. The draw has set up a thrilling clash between Étoile Filante de Ouagadougou (EFO) and Association Sportive du Faso-Yennenga (ASFA Yennenga). It's the great capital derby, pitting the two most decorated clubs in Burkinabè football history against each other. What has happened over the past decade?
This "Fasico" showdown in the round of 16 of the 2026 Burkina Faso Cup will take place on February 12 at Dr. Issoufou Joseph Municipal Stadium. Only one of these giants will make it through to the quarterfinals.
ASFA Yennenga, five-time cup winners, are currently sitting sixth in the Fasofoot Premier League standings. EFO, the record champions with 15 titles—including back-to-back triumphs in 2023 and 2024—are enduring a tough spell, languishing at the bottom of the table after 18 rounds. Nevertheless, the "Queen of the stadiums" clinched the most recent derby, edging out the "Princess Yennenga Warriors" 2-1.
Since 2016, the two teams have met 21 times. EFO have taken the spoils on eight occasions, while ASFA Yennenga have won seven, with six matches ending in a draw.
