Burkina Faso Stallions: Soufiane Aqriran signs on as fitness coach and performance analyst
Soufiane Aqriran has joined the technical staff of Burkina Faso's national team as fitness coach and performance analyst. The Moroccan has committed to a one-year contract that covers the Africa Cup of Nations, set to be hosted by his country at the end of the year.
Sports fans in Burkina Faso have become familiar with Soufiane Aqriran over the past few weeks alongside the Stallions. The Moroccan has signed a one-year deal, with clear and ambitious objectives outlined in the contract. Aqriran's primary task is to oversee the players' physical preparation, ensuring they reach and maintain peak fitness ahead of upcoming competitions. At the same time, he’ll be responsible for analyzing the team’s performance—a vital role in identifying strengths and weaknesses and adapting tactical plans accordingly.
Beyond the pitch
The new member of the Stallions’ coaching staff is committed to more than just what happens on the field. His contract includes the possibility of training local staff in fitness through specialized workshops.
Thanks to his credentials, Soufiane Aqriran holds a degree in physical and mental preparation from the Ibn Tofail University – Institute of Sports Professions and also has a CAF diploma in fitness coaching.
Apart from his new role with the Stallions, he brings extensive experience in sports. He also works as a physical education teacher and serves as sports director at the Marrakech Red Academy in Morocco, where he dedicates his efforts to developing young talent.

In a short time, the Moroccan has won the admiration of many fans with his enthusiasm and infectious energy during the Stallions’ training sessions. On social media, some users have even nicknamed him "Wedraogo Soufiane", a nod to the famous family name in the Land of the Upright People. He himself affirms: "He loves Burkina and has a genuine passion for the country."“I’ll do my utmost to live up to everyone’s expectations,” he promised in a statement to Foot Africa.
At the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Soufiane Aqriran will play a crucial role in the Stallions’ quest for the title, after finishing runners-up in 2013, third in 2017, and fourth in 2021.
