Nico Schlotterbeck is one of the central pillars of Dortmund’s defence. Behind the scenes, however, there are increasing signs that he is pursuing other plans. Nervousness is growing at BVB – and FC Bayern is getting into position.
Borussia Dortmund are increasingly doubting whether they can keep the 25-year-old in the long term. According to BILD, Schlotterbeck is seriously considering not renewing his contract, which runs until 2027. The main reasons for this are doubts about the club’s sporting prospects and a certain dissatisfaction with the style of play under Niko Kovač. FC Bayern are keeping a close eye on the situation – Schlotterbeck has been on their radar for months and his salary would be easy for the record champions to afford. They could also fulfil the international’s title ambitions.
BVB have already submitted an improved offer to the defender. An annual salary of around eight million euros is on the table, but that is not enough. According to Sport BILD, Schlotterbeck is demanding around ten million euros plus an exit clause. Dortmund are signalling their willingness to talk – probably also to prevent the case from developing into a second Lewandowski, who left Dortmund for Munich in 2014 on a free transfer.
Bayern, on the other hand, have already expressed their interest. In addition to the quality of the international player, there are also strategic reasons for a possible transfer. In Munich, the future of Dayot Upamecano remains open, Minjae Kim is controversial and could be sold. Schlotterbeck’s profile with a strong left foot, his passing strength and robustness make him an attractive candidate for the realignment in defence.

Despite the delicate situation , BVB’s top management remains calm. In Sport BILD , sporting director Lars Ricken explained: „It is his absolute right to plan his future carefully. We respect that. And I am of the opinion that the focus is not on salary, but on prospects, trust and conviction.“ Nevertheless, he emphasised: „We will not rush into it. But of course we don’t want to drag it out until the day after tomorrow.“
Schlotterbeck is deliberately taking his time with his decision, however. According to Sky, he does not want to talk about his future until the new year at the earliest. In addition to Bayern, top international clubs are also showing interest – but the duel seems to be coming to a head at national level. One thing is clear: the developments surrounding Dayot Upamecano are likely to play an important role in Bayern’s planning.
