CAF opens disciplinary proceedings after Al Ahly vs AS FAR crowd trouble

CAF said it had opened disciplinary proceedings after crowd trouble marred Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League match with AS FAR in Cairo on Sunday, adding that anyone found guilty would face sanctions under its regulations.

During the first half, AS FAR players and staff were targeted by bottles and other objects thrown from the stands by some Al Ahly supporters.

Further incidents followed at the final whistle, with security staff intervening and escorting the Moroccan team to the dressing room.

In the stands, visiting supporters were also allegedly targeted.

AS FAR referred the matter to CAF and condemned what it considered antisporting behaviour by some Al Ahly fans, calling it a direct threat to the safety of players and technical staff.
