Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Tammy Abraham have set out their hopes for close friend Noah Okafor ahead of the World Cup, praising his progress and mindset.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Abraham and Okafor bonded at AC Milan, while Calvert-Lewin has been a part-time housemate of the Leeds winger this season. Their comments came in a short YouTube documentary on a channel focused on Okafor and his brothers Elijah and Isaiah.

Abraham has urged Okafor to take more shots rather than prioritising assists. He highlighted the Swiss winger’s eye for goal and disciplined habits, noting eight goals in 28 Premier League outings.

The Villa striker, who shares Nigerian roots with Okafor, also wants to see a celebratory routine they devised make an appearance at the tournament.

Calvert-Lewin, who like Okafor returned to international duty in March but missed England selection for this summer, believes the season has primed his team-mate for World Cup pressure. He is confident Okafor can handle it and enjoy it, and wished him success, health and good performances.

Reflecting on Okafor’s start at Thorp Arch, Calvert-Lewin recalled lightning footwork and explosiveness, then a brief adjustment to league tempo and decision making. He felt the winger’s off-the-ball output has improved most after taking feedback on board.

There were setbacks, including spells out of the XI around January and a hamstring issue in February. Calvert-Lewin praised his composure and discipline, saying their house-share chats revealed a calm belief that opportunities would return.
