Central defender, Cameron Carter-Vickers most recent jaunt saw him jet across the Atlantic for the USA’s friendlies against Ecuador in Austin, Texas, and Australia in Colorado, but this weekend it’s all about the road and the miles to Dundee as Celtic return to domestic action.

Sunday’s noon kick-off at Dens Park marks the return to SPFL action and the first of seven games in three different competitions over the next month, and it’s something the players are relishing.

The American internationalist said: “I’m looking forward to it. We’ve had a couple of weeks without a game, so it will be good to get out there and back playing.

“I’ve been away with the USA so this was my first day back in. It was good today, the boys enjoyed it and we’ve been working hard.”

The defender said of the start to Celtic’s season: “There are areas that we want to improve upon, but, results-wise, especially domestically, it’s been pretty good.

“Two games into the European campaign, we want to start getting points on the board, but, again, I thought the point away from home was a decent one. It was disappointing to lose at home to Braga.

‘In general you are always looking to improve, but I think at the moment we are more focused on our attacking play and trying to create more opportunities to score more goals.’

“I think the defence has been pretty good. We’ve conceded two in each of the last two games to Motherwell and Braga, but, up until that point, we hadn’t conceded many at all to be honest.

“If you look at the goals against with Braga, one was a 30-yard strike and the other was late on in the game, and, apart from that I thought we didn’t give up many chances, so defensively I feel we’ve been okay.”

There have been new faces in the defence, while players such as Alistair Johnston and Auston Trusty have dropped out injured, with Carter-Vickers being one of the mainstays amid the alterations.

He added; “We’ve got a few new players in, and players in and out of the team, but as time has gone on, we’ve become a bit more cohesive, and hopefully that will continue.”

The last time the Celts played at Dens Park was back in mid-January when a tense night of end-to-end football ended in a 3-3 draw, with Arne Engels netting Celtic’s equaliser from the spot in the 90th minute.

Carter Vickers said: “I don’t think any game is a gimme. A lot of times I’ve played up there it’s always been in difficult games and tight games, so we’re probably expecting that at the weekend as well.”
