Seventeen minutes into this CAN 2025 semi-final and already a blow for Senegal’s captain, Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegalese defender was shown a yellow card after a challenge on Omar Marmoush, who was sprinting through on goal. This booking carries serious consequences, as it means he will be automatically suspended for the final, should Senegal qualify, due to card accumulation.

But the Lions’ captain’s night didn’t end there. Just a few minutes later, Kalidou Koulibaly reached for his groin, clearly struggling with a muscle issue, and was forced to leave the pitch in the 20th minute. Sadly, this is a scenario all too familiar for the Senegalese defender: in 2019, he also missed the CAN final against Algeria due to card accumulation.
