After a disappointing weekend, Manchester United will shift focus to Europe on Tuesday. At Old Trafford, they take on French side Lyon in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals. The first leg last week ended 2-2, leaving everything to play for.

Rúben Amorim has not had a great time since taking over as Manchester United manager last year. Following their loss to Newcastle United last Sunday, it is now confirmed that the club will finish with their lowest-ever points tally in a Premier League season. They currently sit 14th in the league.

The Europa League represents the Portuguese manager's only chance of some success this season. Winning the tournament would also guarantee them a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Rúben Amorim has confirmed that goalkeeper André Onana will start for Manchester United against Lyon on Thursday. The Cameroonian international made two costly errors in the 2-2 draw in the first leg. Having labelled his team as "way better" than Lyon ahead of the match, Onana was left humbled when he allowed Thiago Almada's free-kick to creep in for Lyon’s opener. Then, just as United looked to have secured the win, he spilled the ball straight to Rayan Cherki, who scored with the last kick of the game to equalise for the home side.

In front of their home fans, United will be hopeful of progressing to the next round. They found themselves in a similar situation in the round of 16 second leg. After drawing in Spain against Real Sociedad, they produced a brilliant performance at Old Trafford to win 4-1. However, on that occasion, they were riding high on confidence following a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at home in the league. This time around, they come into the match on the back of a tough outing at St. James’ Park, where they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Newcastle.

So far in Europe, the Red Devils have performed relatively well. They are considered favourites to win the tournament among the remaining sides. If they can cut out the mistakes at the back, Amorim’s side has the quality to progress to the last four.
