Canadian superstar Jonathan David joined record-time Italian champions Juventus on a Bosman deal last summer. Expectations were sky-high following the 26-year-old’s outstanding five-year stint at Lille, but the player has failed to live up to the billing in his first season in Serie A.

Jonathan David was one of the most sought-after strikers in the market last summer. Out of contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, David drew interest from numerous top European clubs, including La Liga powerhouse Barcelona. In addition to the Blaugrana, Inter and Milan were also eager to lure him to Serie A.

However, the former Gent center-forward chose the Allianz Stadium as his next destination, signing a five-year contract with the Bianconeri. After racking up 109 goals and 31 assists across 232 appearances for Les Dogues, David moved to Turin with a reputation as one of Europe’s most reliable and complete forwards.

Canada Talisman

Back in his homeland, David’s rise to global prominence has also coincided with the rapid growth of online gaming. However, Canada’s provincial online casino systems continue to cause problems for operators and players across different markets, particularly when it comes to ensuring equal access to offers and promotions nationwide.

This fragmented landscape has also shaped how players discover and compare offers, with many turning to the latest no deposit casino bonuses in Canada to navigate the varying options more effectively. Based on the odds from several leading bookmakers, David is now considered more likely to leave Juventus in the upcoming transfer window than to remain for another season.

Nevertheless, Canada boss Jesse Marsch will put the nation’s fate into David’s hands, with the Canucks seeking a standout result at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. David failed to get on the scoresheet as Canada suffered a group-stage elimination in Qatar four years ago. Therefore, he will be heavily motivated to make a major impression this time around.

Uncertain future

As aforementioned, David’s maiden season at Juventus has been nothing short of disappointing. Unable to reach his former heights, he has netted just six goals in 33 Serie A matches. Meanwhile, the Bianconeri supporters have grown frustrated with the Canadian striker’s underwhelming form.

Juventus fans booed David when he was subbed off during a gut-wrenching 1-1 home draw against already-relegated Hellas Verona last weekend. However, it’s no wonder he has come under scrutiny, given that he has scored just two league goals since the start of the new calendar year.

With the club faithful showing their discontent toward the Canucks headline star, a summer exit could be on the cards. According to Tuttosport, Aston Villa and Fenerbahce are interested in offering David an escape route from Turin despite his dreadful season in Italy’s top flight.

However, it’s uncertain whether Juventus would consider offloading their underperforming striker now that Dusan Vlahovic is on the verge of leaving the club as a free agent. Still, it’s worth noting that David is one of the Bianconeri’s highest earners, taking home an eye-watering salary of €6m net per season plus €2m in add-ons.
