Pundits Fabio Capello and Alessandro Del Piero had plenty of criticism for Milan after their 3-1 loss at home to Liverpool in the Champions League on Tuesday night, with the former claiming he felt ‘depleted’ having to watch Paulo Fonseca’s side.

The Rossoneri took an early lead through Christian Pulisic, but were trailing by half-time after goals from centre-backs Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk. Dominik Szoboszlai added a third mid-way through the second half.

Fonseca’s side have picked up just one win in all competitions so far this season, leading to criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Capello and Del Piero criticise Milan performance against Liverpool

“I felt depleted watching this Milan,” Capello said while on punditry duty with Sky Sport Italia.

“No reaction, incapable of making three passes. We continue to play football revolving around the goalkeeper, who touched the ball more than Morata. You don’t get anywhere with no courage.”

Capello questioned where the leadership was coming from against Liverpool, and suggested that summer signing Tammy Abraham was the only one who tried to grab the bull by the horns.

“It’s also clear that there is no leader. Do you know who the leader was tonight? Abraham. Leao’s only good play came at the end. You have a player who can cause problems for the opponents and you don’t provide for him.

“The first ball he touched was in the 20th minute. All this makes me have little faith in Milan.”

Del Piero agreed that Leao needed to make more of an effort to make himself available to his teammates.

“You can be the weaker side, but in that context you have to try something else. You have to use your weapons. It’s true that Leao was first involved in the 20th minute, but at a certain point he has to go and get the ball, he’s the leader regardless of what the coach tells you.”
