Fabio Capello criticises Federico Dimarco after the Inter defender complained about frequent substitutions under previous coach Simone Inzaghi: ‘A lack of respect.’

Dimarco admitted on Monday that frequent substitution around the hour mark under Inzaghi at Inter did not help his development.

The Italy international was a regular starter under Inzaghi, but the ex-Inter boss often replaced the left wing-back after circa 60 minutes.

“You can only prepare for matches by playing. Coming off in the 60th minute, a lot of the time was difficult to grow. I’m playing more this year, and it shows,” Dimarco said at a press conference on Monday, before a Champions League match against Slavia Prague.

Inzaghi left Inter last summer after three seasons at the club and was replaced by Cristian Chivu.

Capello, a former Juventus and Milan coach, did not particularly enjoy Dimarco’s claims.

“A lack of respect towards the coach who puts out the best line-up to win,” the former Italian tactician told Sky Sport via FCInter1908.

“But it’s also a lack of respect towards the teammate who comes on in his place. A player cannot be allowed to speak like that; it’s a very bad thing.”

Dimarco, 27, has made seven appearances across all competitions this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

He’s only been subbed off three times, once in the Champions League and twice in Serie A.
