Cardiff City FC’s appeal in the case of Emiliano Sala’s tragic death has been rejected, as reported by RMC Sport. The Welsh club requested that the courts order FC Nantes – Sala’s former club – to pay them €122m in economic damages following the accidental death of the Argentine centre-forward on the 21st of January 2019. The aircraft carrying Sala as he was en route from Nantes to Cardiff crashed into the sea near Guernesey.
Cardiff City were relegated that Premier League season and believe that this would not have been the case if the player had not died, thus the reason why they took the matter to courts. Nantes’ Commercial Court has now dismissed the Welsh club’s claim in their financial dispute with FC Nantes.
The court determined that FC Nantes had not committed any wrongdoing and that Cardiff City, unlike FC Nantes, had not suffered any damage. The court even ordered Cardiff City to pay FC Nantes €300,000 in damages plus an additional €180,000.
