Following their qualification to the final of the Spanish Super Cup after their win over Athletic Club in the semi-final, FC Barcelona are now set to face Real Madrid in the final on Sunday.

The Merengues got over a rather resilient Mallorca side with a 3-0 win a day after the Blaugranes had made their way to the final. Thus, as has been the case for the last two years, the El Clasico rivals will once again fight to decide who will take this trophy home from Saudi Arabia.

However, the context surrounding this final is significantly different than that of the last two years. Barcelona have been in the news recently because of the registration issues of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.

After having been denied registration by La Liga and RFEF, the Catalans approached the CSD to get a precautionary ruling for the registration of the duo, and successfully got such a ruling on the same day on which they played the final against Athletic Club.

However, these developments have not really been amusing for most other La Liga clubs, with several such clubs publishing statements showing their discontent with their perceived unfair favour shown to Barcelona.

Surprisingly, Real Madrid has not been among these clubs, and the Merengues have been rather quiet about this whole affair.

In fact, even Carlo Ancelotti was asked about his club’s silence on the matter, and what will it mean for them if Dani Olmo scored in the upcoming final on Sunday as he addressed the press conference ahead of this game.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Italian tactician did not complain about his registration, and made it clear that his team will be looking to counter the Spaniard’s quality with their own skills:

“It would mean that we haven’t been able to stop a player everyone knows. We have to try to counteract his quality with our defense.”

It is nice to see Ancelotti not getting involved in politics of the matter, even while other clubs have protested over this registration issue. Hopefully, the two sides will put on a high-quality display in the coming match, and give the fans a final to remember.
