Carlos Alberto has questioned Carlo Ancelotti after the coach said Flamengo’s Danilo is guaranteed a place in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad, while arguing Neymar should go.

“He has to explain himself. If he says Danilo is guaranteed at the World Cup, where is Danilo 100%? Danilo has fewer minutes than Neymar on the pitch. Things have to be equal. If you like him, invite him to your house. I am in favour of taking Danilo, because he can help Brazil in other ways,” he told RedCast.

“Based on Ancelotti’s demand, Neymar played 90 minutes plus stoppage time, so he looks fine physically. He did not say Neymar has to play well, he said he has to be 100% physically.”

Ancelotti has previously said Danilo is already on Brazil’s list for the tournament, making Flamengo’s number 13 one of the Italian’s trusted options.

Neymar is still fighting for a place, with the uncertainty set to end on 18 May, the date of Ancelotti’s final squad announcement.

Meanwhile, Danilo and the Flamengo squad turn to Wednesday 22, when they face Vitória in the first leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil at the Maracanã, kick-off 21:30 Brasília time.
