After almost 70 minutes on the pitch in a solid defensive performance, Carlos Augusto was one of Inter’s standout players in their friendly victory over Manchester City, as the Nerazzurri won on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.
The Brazilian defender shared his thoughts with Inter TV.
The coach said you’re not at 100% yet, but how much does playing a high-intensity game against an opponent of this level help?
“We’ve been working hard for ten days, and we’ve had a great week of training. These are our first friendlies, to build up our fitness and get minutes in our legs. We played a high-level game with a great first half, while in the second half we managed the situation well. In these matches, we want to show that we’re ready to fight for our objectives this year too and have a great season.”
You mentioned the first half, when there were some high-quality moments, and you went toe-to-toe with City. Did you enjoy yourselves on the pitch?
“Yes, we did. It’s something the coach always tells us: on the pitch we have to enjoy ourselves, but do so responsibly. As a team, we’ve known each other for a long time. This is my fourth year here, and I know my teammates and their style of play. We had a great first half that showed we’re working well and that we want to start the season in the best possible way.”
Did you say anything to Mosconi and Lavelli after they scored the penalties that secured the win?
“We had a bit of a laugh with them, but they’re great lads, and they can really help us. It’s up to them now; they have the potential to reach a very high level, and we’re here to support them along the way.”
