Renzo Saravia is in contention but not yet at full tilt, Carlos Corberán said, with a decision due before tomorrow’s game. According to Superdeporte, the free-agent right-back joined after Dimitri Foulquier’s serious injury and recurring absences for Thierry Rendall, who remains out this week.

The Argentine arrived short of match rhythm and has been put through an express programme at Paterna. He is yet to make his debut for the Mestalla club.

Corberán said the defender is available and that only playing will bring him up to speed, adding he is not at the level he expects to reach. He noted Saravia is getting closer each week.

Asked whether that lack of minutes was factored into the signing, the coach said they knew he had not played since December and that the plan was to get him fit to help the team. He stressed he would be used when necessary.

Corberán also referenced last season’s addition of Aarons, who had little involvement. He said that when Aarons was needed at the Bernabéu he performed well and helped deliver three important points in the fight for survival.
