Carlos Tartiere stadium welcomes La Liga back against Real Madrid
This Sunday evening, the Carlos Tartiere stadium will once again pulse to the rhythm of Spanish top-flight football after more than twenty years of waiting. For their grand return to La Liga, Real Oviedo host a prestigious opponent: Real Madrid.
The Carbayón faithful have had to wait many years to experience a La Liga night on home soil again. The last time the Tartiere hosted elite football, some of today's supporters were just children. This Sunday's fixture is therefore much more than just a match: it's a celebration, a symbol of rebirth for an entire club and city.
Oviedo's debut didn't go as hoped: beaten 2-0 at La Cerámica by Villarreal, the Asturians were quickly reduced to ten men after Alberto Reina was sent off in the 27th minute. Despite this setback, coach Veljko Paunović remains confident:
We will play with courage and joy, without fear, for our supporters.
With new signings like Eric Bailly, Dendoncker, and Brekalo, Oviedo aim to show a much more solid and ambitious face in front of their home crowd.
On the other side, Xabi Alonso's Real Madrid arrive full of momentum after a 1-0 win over Osasuna on the opening day. The Basque coach, keen to instill a new identity in his side, could opt for a system with three centre-backs, with Antonio Rüdiger returning to the lineup.
Rodrygo now has the chance to step up as a key player, while young Mastantuono could once again earn some minutes after impressing in previous outings.
