Carlos Vinicius has fallen short of automatic renewal targets at Grêmio and is attracting enquiries from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and MLS clubs, according to Globo.com.

The thresholds for an automatic extension applied until mid year. His deal had two options to trigger an extra season, the first being a World Cup call-up for Brazil or Portugal, which did not occur.

The second required him to start and play more than 45 minutes in 70% of Grêmio’s matches during the contract year, a mark he did not reach. Club officials involved in his signing did not confirm the clause specifics when contacted.

He made 40 qualifying appearances, 29 this year and 11 in 2025. From his announcement onwards Grêmio played 61 matches, with him involved in 65.5%, or 61.53% when counting all of July, both below the 70% trigger.

As a result, he has been free to sign a pre-contract with other clubs since 1 July. Grêmio have discussed a two-season renewal, although talks are currently stalled.

The club are also negotiating new deals with Amuzu and Pavon. It has set a salary cap and says extensions will only be agreed within those limits, with talks continuing as it seeks to improve finances. There remains a real risk Carlos Vinicius leaves at the end of the year.
