Caroline Weir has joined OL Lyonnes on a three-year deal after leaving Real Madrid, strengthening a side pushing to reclaim the Champions League.
The club confirmed late on Tuesday morning that the Scotland captain, 30, had signed. Able to lead the line or play as an attacking midfielder, she has 120 caps and 31 goals.
A free agent after her Madrid contract ended, Weir scored 63 in 125 across four seasons and leaves as the club’s record scorer. She made the top 30 in the most recent Ballon d'Or and was club player of the season in 2023 and 2025, plus Liga F’s best in 2023.
Over the past two seasons she was involved in 56 goals in all competitions, 35 scored and 21 assisted. Last term she delivered 20 goals and 8 assists in 41 outings, following 15 and 13 the previous campaign.
Her honours list comprises domestic cups only, one in Scotland, four in England and one in Spain. Runner-up in England in 2019 with City, she will hope Lyon offers the chance to add silverware as they target a domestic treble and the Champions League.
After the German Maria Luisa Grohs arrived as back-up to Christiane Endler, this is the second summer addition for OL Lyonnes. Departures are Teagan Micah, out of contract, and Linsey Heaps to a Denver franchise in the United States. The off-season is not expected to be much busier, with possibly one more arrival and one exit.
