Doctor Celso Barros, 73, officially launched his candidacy for the presidency of Fluminense Football Club on Tuesday (14). The event took place at EXC, a venue located at the Jockey Club in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone, and brought together supporters and figures connected to the club’s internal politics.

Former president of Unimed, Fluminense’s main sponsor between 1999 and 2014, Celso wants to return to the center of the club’s decision-making. His general vice president will be lawyer Rafael Rolim, who ran in the last elections.

Celso was elected general vice president in Mário Bittencourt’s first term (2019–2022). He even led Tricolor football in the first months of the administration but was removed from the position.

In addition to Celso Barros, four other names have already expressed their intention to run: Mattheus Montenegro, Ademar Arrais, Luis Monteagudo, and Ricardo Mazella. To formalize their candidacies, each candidate must gather 200 member signatures.

The election does not yet have a confirmed date but will be held in the second half of November.
