Former Celtic striker Tony Watt has signed for Glasgow side Partick Thistle. The 31-year-old left Dundee United at the end of last season, having spent the season on loan with Motherwell.

The Firhill side have added the quality and experience of Watt to their ranks as they look to secure promotion back to the Premiership. New Head Coach Mark Wilson has handed a two-year deal to the player, who will likely relish the chance at playing in Glasgow.

Speaking to the club’s website, Wilson was delighted to parade the signing of Watt.

“To secure a player like Tony is a real coup for the club. I played with him briefly when he was a youngster at Celtic and he’s gone on to have a distinguished career since then.

“He arrives here as a very experienced player who had an excellent season the last time he was playing at this level and we want to give him the platform to perform like that again.”

Despite his age, Watt has played for seven other Scottish clubs throughout his career – along with a number of other teams. The attacker has 93 career goals and will be eager to hit the ton mark quickly for the Jags.

Watt may have only made 34 appearances for Celtic but the Scottish striker scored that iconic goal against Barcelona. The strike, which beat Victor Valdez, resulted in a famous 2-1 victory for Neil Lennon’s side on a memorable night for Celtic.
