Greg Taylor was surprisingly nowhere to be seen from the Hoops squad sparking speculation over whether the 27 year-old picked up a knock following Celtic’s 2-1 defeat versus Hibernian at Easter Road. The left-back was substituted at half-time in the capital over the weekend with the impressive Jeffery Schlupp deputising.
Speaking to BBC Sports Scotland ahead of yesterday evening’s Scottish Premiership encounter with Aberdeen, Brendan Rodgers explained the reason for Taylor’s absence: “Greg was in the squad, and then late this afternoon when we were at the hotel, his wife went into labour.
“We sent him away to be with her, and fingers crossed everything is OK for them, and they’ll be parents for the first time.”

In Taylor’s absence, Rodgers’ men cruised to a 5-1 thumping victory over the Dons courtesy of Daizen Maeda’s double, Jota, Callum McGregor and Yang Hyun-jun. Celtic have now extended their significant gap at the top of the Premiership table to 16 points.
Five consecutive wins away from securing a fourth successive league title, attention now turns to St Mirren on Saturday evening where the Scottish champions head to Paisley. Is it too early to put the Champagne on ice?
