The defender had been a peripheral figure at the club ever since he arrived in the summer of 2023, barring the odd game here and there and can now finally put this frustrating spell at Celtic behind him and look forward to building a new future in the game in a very good footballing environment, it has to be said.
Lagerbielke was previosuly on a loan deal to FC Twente in the Eredivisie, but they couldn’t find the cash required to convert that temporary stint into a permanent contract for the Swedish centre-half. Despite that, several suitors were ready and willing to enter the fray for his services and Braga have finally sealed the deal in what was supposedly around the £1.7-2 million mark.

However, that figure has now been challenged as Scottish Sun have reported that Celtic have cleared well over the £2 million barrier and also have some incentives added on as well, including a significant sell-on fee.
They state that the transfer which will take Gus from Paradise and to Portugal will actually be an initial €2.6 million, equating to around £2.2 million, with the possibility for it to rise another £400,000 with add-ons, “if certain objectives are met.”
Not only that, but it appears that the Scottish outift will also retain a 10% share of any future sale; meaning if Gus manages to go and be very successful, just like he was in Holland, we could net another very tidy sum at some point down the line.

It’s quite remarkable really that we have managed to flip a player we have had no recourse to use, even after spending around £3 million on him, yet we might just about break even. Moreso, if, as many of our exports do, go on to be successful elsewhere – and there’s no saying that Gustaf won’t – then we could be looking at actually making another profit on a player we frankly had no use for, unbelievably!
We’ve played this one well! Well done to those involved in the deal.
