Celtic and the Rangers have arguably the biggest rivalry in all of football. As a result, it is no surprise that we have rarely seen players represent both teams. Recently, there have been some suggestions of Greg Taylor making the jump to Ibrox when his contract at Parkhead runs out, but to be honest, that feels very unlikely.
There are other players who have gotten the chance to represent the Rangers over the years. But many have turned it down, for one reason or another.
One such player is currently at Celtic. He has confirmed that he had the option of joining the Rangers at one point, but that was never going to happen.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Francis Turley was brought up as a Celtic and Cliftonville fan. He told the Belfast Telegraph:
"I had a few options, a few in Scotland — Aberdeen and Rangers — and a few in England — Ipswich, Burnley and others."But I wanted the Celtic move to work out. Rangers wasn’t going to happen, no chance."
Turley is 19 years of age and is highly regarded at Celtic. He has already made his debut for the senior team and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him at Parkhead.
Many youngsters have found chances hard to come by at Celtic over the years though. The likes of Ben Doak, Daniel Kelly and Rocco Vata even left. As a result, it might be best for someone like Turley to go out on loan in order to gain some experience rather than spend too much time at the B team level.
He could do with a good loan spell or two and be ready for first-team action by the time he comes back. That can work like a dream. Just ask Callum McGregor, who followed that route and is now the captain of the club.
Turley has also represented Northern Ireland at the youth international level. It looks like he has bright future ahead of him, if his development goes according to plan.
