Celtic have signed Warren Lyall, the 16-year-old goalkeeper who spent time on trial with Arsenal in February.
The Scotland youth international has left Dundee and signed his first professional contract with Celtic, with the Dark Blues due compensation.
Record Sport reports that Celtic beat off competition for Lyall, who had several options and had been on Arsenal’s radar after training with the Premier League champions earlier this year.
Lyall reportedly spent two weeks at Arsenal, training with the under-18s and playing a match for the under-15s.
Born on December 10, 2009, Lyall has already been playing above his age group for Dundee, featuring for their under-18s and their reserve side.
Lyall has also represented Scotland up to under-17 level. His international record includes a clean sheet in a European Championship qualifying win over England, as well as starts in a development tournament in Portugal, where he helped Scotland’s under-17s beat the hosts 3-2.
He will now join Celtic’s B team.
Celtic have also extended the contract of former Arsenal man, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The Ox signed a short-term deal with the Scottish giants in February after five months without a club and has now extended his deal until the end of next season.
He made 12 appearances for the Scottish Champions, nine in the league and three in the cup, scoring two goals and adding an SPL title and Scottish Cup to his trophy haul that already contains a Premier League title, four FA Cups, a League Cup, a Turkish Cup, a Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
