Mohamed Salah
Several records are up for grabs for Mohamed Salah this season in the Champions League with Liverpool.
Already on this opening matchday, Mohamed Salah will become the sole second in the ranking of players with the most Champions League appearances for Liverpool. He currently shares this spot with Gerrard, both on 73 appearances. By the end of the group stage, the Egyptian could even surpass Jamie Carragher's record of 80 Champions League games for the Reds. To achieve this, Salah would need to feature in all eight scheduled group matches.
Currently, Salah is Liverpool's all-time top scorer in the Champions League. With 44 goals in 73 matches, he stands alone at the top. He has netted 47 goals in 88 career appearances in the competition, which puts him 14th in the all-time rankings. One more goal would see him draw level with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Andriy Shevchenko (48). Two more would allow him to catch Alfredo Di Stefano (49). Furthermore, the forward is just four goals shy of Thierry Henry's tally (50).
As a reminder, Salah has also provided 17 assists for Liverpool in the Champions League—another club record. And let’s not forget, the Egyptian is the highest-scoring African player in the history of Europe's most prestigious competition.
