Champions League: UEFA turns away Gianluca Prestianni

Just hours before the Real Madrid vs Benfica showdown, UEFA has rejected the appeal filed by the Portuguese club regarding the provisional suspension of Gianluca Prestianni.

In an official statement, the European body confirmed the decision made on February 23 by its control, ethics and disciplinary committee, upholding the sanction imposed on the Argentine winger.

"UEFA's Appeals Body has made the following decision today: the appeal lodged by SL Benfica is dismissed. Consequently, the decision of February 23, 2026, is confirmed. Mr. Gianluca Prestianni remains provisionally suspended for the next UEFA club competition match for which he would otherwise be eligible," the statement reads.

Despite traveling to Madrid with the squad, Prestianni will not be able to set foot on the Santiago Bernabéu pitch tonight.
