CHAN 2024: "Every match is now a final" for Algeria
After a strong start in the 2024 African Nations Championship, Algeria’s coach Madjid Bougherra is no longer hiding his ambitions.
On Monday at the Mandela National Stadium, the local Fennecs outclassed Uganda 3-0 in their Group C opener. This emphatic victory puts Algeria at the top of the group with three points and a +3 goal difference. Next challenge: South Africa, this Friday, August 8. Madjid Bougherra, Algeria’s head coach, emphasized the importance of every match in the CHAN group stage:
We started well, but we know that every team will want to face us. For this second match, we are aware that every game is like a final. We also need to score more goals.
Facing South Africa, who will be making their debut in the competition, the Algerian coach remains cautious:
Every match is different. We won't approach it like the last one. South Africa is a solid team, with quality players, and they’ll be fresher than us.
The message is clear: Algeria wants to confirm their status and move forward step by step, as if playing a series of finals.
