Chapecoense host Remo in the Brasileirão on Sunday at Arena Condá, with 20th facing 19th in a high-stakes scrap for precious points.
Chapecoense and Remo drew both meetings 1-1 in Série B last year, and this time the urgency is sharper: the hosts sit on nine points, the visitors on 12.
Chape arrive with a lift after a midweek cup win over Botafogo, following a league draw at Mirassol. Leão Azul's momentum has been steadier, with victories at Botafogo and Bahia and a home draw against Palmeiras in recent league action.
Availability could bite. For the hosts, Yannick Bolasie and Everton are suspended, while Rafael Thyere, Victor Caetano, Bruno Matias and Robert are injured. The visitors are without Gabriel Bill, Eduardo Melo, Thalisson, Freitas and Kayky Almeida through injury, and Zé Ricardo is suspended.
Verdão do Oeste have scored 14 and conceded 27 in 14 league games, while Leão Azul are on 16 for and 25 against after 15. With both teams combining modest attacks and leaky defences, the game may hinge on fine margins and whoever manages transitions better.
A home win would take Chape to 12 points and could lift them off the foot of the table. Victory for Leão Azul would move them to 15 points and could close the gap to those above the relegation places. A draw would keep both locked in the survival battle.
