Chelsea 1-0 Everton player ratings: Sanchez proves match-winner as Jackson ends drought

Immagine dell'articolo:Chelsea 1-0 Everton player ratings: Sanchez proves match-winner as Jackson ends drought

The Blues like playing Everton at home, now unbeaten in their past 30 league matches against the Toffees at Stamford Bridge — their longest unbeaten home run against an opponent in their league history. Nicolas Jackson scored the only goal of the game in the first half, but Robert Sanchez also received plaudits for his performance in goal after the break.

Chelsea moved ahead of fifth-placed Nottingham Forest on goal difference, and one point clear of Newcastle United in sixth. But that might not be the case by the time Chelsea next kick off in the league.

Chelsea player ratings

Robert Sanchez: 74%

Sanchez looked erratic in the first half with a couple of dropped claims and weird decision-making, but he made up for it. The Spaniard made three saves overall, with two excellent stops in the second half to deny what looked like certain goals. Sanchez ended the game with 1.16 goals prevented and five crosses caught.

Moises Caicedo: 65%

Started as a right-back in Chelsea’s system though he was often found moving central on the ball. Made a match-high four interceptions and made three tackles, helping to keep his flank well-marshalled. He also completed five passes into the final third, with his offensive contribution upping slightly after moving into the midfield later in the game.

Trevoh Chalobah: 68%

Chalobah played a big part in the winning goal, tackling Beto in midfield, with the ball falling to Fernandez who set up Jackson. He looked as a solid as ever, with a match-high nine clearances alongside two tackles won, while winning all of his ground duels. Chalobah also boasted a retention rate of 91.25%, proving reliable on the ball.

Levi Colwill: 73%

Had a very good battle with Beto, for which he was penalised twice early on for fouls. But he grew in the game, with three tackles won including one last man tackle and four clearances. Colwill also won possession five times in the defensive third.

Marc Cucurella: 68%

This was another good performance from Cucurella, which we’ve come to expect from the Spaniard. He won two tackles, had three touches in the opposition box and completed five passes into the final third. Cucurella also had two shots on target himself, becoming more of a goal threat.

Romeo Lavia: 71%

Looked impressive in Chelsea’s midfield on his first start after injury issues, sitting just in front of the defence. Lavia won seven of his 11 duels, both more than any other Chelsea player during his time on the pitch. Won all three of his aerial duels, made three tackles and two interceptions, while also completing 13 passes in the final third.

Enzo Fernandez: 61%

Set up the winning goal with a good pass into Jackson, though he was a bit sloppy on the ball. Fernandez only had a retention rate of 73.33% and completed 81.4% of his open play passes, but he was trying to play through the Everton midfield with some testing passes. Did still make seven ball recoveries and won possession four times in the middle third.

Pedro Neto: 62%

Tried to run at the Everton defence as much as he could and he completed three take-ons, which was more than any player for either team. Neto had nine crosses in the game, again more than any other player. He also won seven duels and won possession six times, helping a lot defensively.

Cole Palmer: 60%

Another game without a goal for Palmer and the Englishman didn’t have a single shot. He looked low on confidence again with just four final third entries, though he did create two chances. Palmer also completed two take-ons but this was below his usual high level.

Noni Madueke: 69%

Was the more dangerous of the two Chelsea wingers on the ball, looking to attack with his dribbling and his shooting. Had a good effort saved by Pickford in the second half, having weaved through the Everton defence. Madueke had four shots in total, all hitting the target, more than any other Chelsea player. He also completed two take-ons and attempted five crosses.

Nicolas Jackson: 63%

Jackson ended a long scoring drought with a lovely finish from outside the box. He took one touch to turn and then rifled low past Pickford to score Chelsea’s first goal in the first half of a Premier League match since February — a run of six games. That was Jackson’s only shot in the match but he had a good battle with Jarrad Branthwaite off the ball. He was also the only starter to complete 100% of his passes (24).

Everton player ratings

Jordan Pickford: 79%

Everton could have lost by more goals if it weren’t for Pickford. The English goalkeeper made six saves of Saturday afternoon, including an impressive stop on Madueke. He prevented 1.33 goals, but was well-beaten by Jackson’s strike.

Nathan Patterson: 54%

Had a busy afternoon up against the pairing of Cucurella and Madueke and had to make four tackles, the joint-most of any Everton player during his time on the pitch. Patterson also made one interception and won four duels.

Jake O’Brien: 65%

O’Brien did not look out of place in the Toffees defence, replacing the injured James Tarkowski. He was as calm as anything on the ball, with a retention rate of 96.67% and chipped in defensively. He’ll be a good partner for Branthwaite in the final games of the season.

Jarrad Branthwaite: 70%

Despite being on the losing side, Branthwaite once again showed why he’s so highly rated. The Everton centre-back made eight clearances and won two tackles, with 75% success rate in his ground duels. He also won possession three times in the defensive third and had one successful offside trap.

Vitalii Mykolenko: 62%

Looked decent defensively, with two interceptions retaining possession and three possessions won in the defensive third. Mykolenko also created one big chance in the first half, setting up Doucoure for his misplaced header.

James Garner: 59%

Garner’s presence in the midfield wasn’t really known, as his partner did most of the work. The midfielder won one tackle but did complete 92.16% of his open-play passes.

Idrissa Gueye: 65%

Did his best to win the midfield battle and played like a man 10 years his junior. Gueye won four tackles in total, with one interception retaining possession. He also made 11 accurate forward passes, which is more than any of the starting holding midfielders in this game for either side. Won possession four times in the middle third with seven ball recoveries.

Jack Harrison: 56%

It was a frustrating afternoon for Harrison who really couldn’t get going, completing just 50% of his passes. He did create one chance and put in three crosses, but could help Everton get on the scoresheet while he was on the pitch. Loss possession 12 times, more than any other Everton player during his time on the pitch.

Abdoulaye Doucoure: 53%

Had Everton’s first shot of the game just before half-time but his header was close to going out for a throw-in. Other than that, Doucoure wasn’t really involved in the game on the ball.

Iliman Ndiaye: 53%

Was the least-involved of all Everton players in the first half, with just 16 touches. Failed both of his attempted take-ons, but won possession twice. Came off at half-time, replaced by Carlos Alcaraz who changed the way Everton were playing.

Beto: 44%

Beto had an interesting battle with Colwill, which he did come out on top a few times, winning fouls in 50-50s. Had Everton’s first shot on target in the 62nd minute, testing Sanchez will a low driven effort, forcing a good save. Was taken off moments later.

How do Squawka player ratings work?

Squawka’s new player rating system is wholly stats-based. Player scores are based on the numbers they put up across a range of on-ball events, from goals scored to tackles won.

We tailored each score to the players’ respective positions using extensive research and expertise. For example, forwards are rated on metrics like shots on target, touches in the opposition box, and big chances created. Meanwhile, centre-backs are rewarded for winning aerial duels, making blocks, successful long-range passes, etc.
