Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich on a permanent deal.

The London rivals head a competitive race to sign the 19-year-old, who has informed Bayern of his desire to leave in search of regular first-team football.

Tel has started just twice in the Bundesliga this season. After initially wanting to remain at the Allianz Arena, the forward’s stance has shifted with an exit likely before the transfer deadline.

Chelsea and Spurs are both interested in adding Tel to their attacking options and are open to a permanent transfer. Manchester United have also expressed interest in the teenager but are considering a loan proposal at this stage.

Bayern Munich director Max Eberl discussed Tel’s situation this week and said all offers will be considered: “Yes, Mathys Tel wants to go. Loan or permanent? We will assess all the options I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”

Tel has struggled for first-team football this season due to the presence of Harry Kane. His lack of minutes has come despite a breakout season last term, in which the Frenchman scored 10 goals in all competitions despite limited football.

Despite making just six league starts, he recorded seven goals and five assists in the Bundesliga in 2023/24, an average of a goal involvement every 86 minutes.
