Chelsea and Strasbourg’s 12 transfers since the summer has FIFA watching

The BBC have just published an article on Chelsea and Strasbourg’s relationship after the two sister clubs finished another transfer window full of business back and forth.

David Datro Fofana completed a loan move there on Monday before the deadline, becoming the 12th transfer between the clubs this season. That’s not even including manager Liam Rosenior, who we took from our sister club last month.

It doesn’t sound like anything will change anytime soon:

“BBC Sport understands that Fifa does not have any appetite to look again at its transfer regulations,” the piece reads, adding that so many clubs and owners are already involved in multi club ownership that it would be very difficult to roll back now.

“Chelsea would point out they have simply been fully utilising this option [of 3 loaned players between the same clubs at one time],” and that they’ve not the worst offenders anyway. But that doesn’t mean FIFA aren’t watching.

Chelsea and Strasbourg will continue down dangerous path without major changes

We don’t really like the way that Strasbourg and Chelsea’s relationship operates. It removes their identity as a club entirely, and pushed Chelsea further down the line towards just being a player trading scheme.

But there’s no doubt that the two parties are operating within the rules right now. And given what’s written above, we don’t see it changing soon. Things will continue to get more toxic at Strasbourg, and unless major success comes to Stamford Bridge soon, fans are going to grow more alienated there too.

In other news…

Joao Pedro impressed with his performance on Tuesday night, and the highlights show him doing really well against a physical Gunners team.

There remain big questions about the team that Chelsea have built. After record spending, they’ve still not really got a strong second XI ready to fill in.
