In a recent interview with Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown claimed that Chelsea are eyeing a move for Nottingham Forest defender Murillo. Brown said,

“Murillo has done a really, really good job for Forest.

“He was a big part of their success last season, but it hasn’t quite clicked for him or for them this season so a few questions might start being asked.

“Chelsea need a centre-back, they’re not good enough at the back to challenge for the title.

“They are aware of that and it’s something they’re going to look at in January, because they’ve suffered a lot of injuries already this season.

“Murillo of course will be on their radar, he has been for a while because he’s been fantastic for Nottingham Forest, and they’re not the only club looking at him.

“If Forest continue to struggle, they could look to take advantage of that situation to tempt him away.

“I think he’d certainly be an improvement on what they’ve got currently, the likes of [Trevoh] Chalobah and the rest of them who’ve been called upon.

“If it’s a deal they think can be done, then it wouldn’t surprise me to see them make a move, because I’m told he’s definitely somebody they’re looking at.”

Murillo’s Solid Campaign In The Premier League

Murillo had an impressive campaign at the Midlands club as he put in a series of solid displays at the heart of their backline. The 23-year-old made 39 appearances for Nottingham last season, scoring two goals in various competitions.

The Brazilian talent was a rock at the back and deserves credit for making 53 tackles, 69 blocks, 36 interceptions and 249 clearances in the Premier League. He was even tidy with his ball distribution after completing 78.5% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).

What Will Murillo Add To Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca’s Team?

Murillo is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.

The Brazilian sensation is a tidy passer of the ball as well. He already knows the Premier League well and has what it takes to make an immediate impact at Chelsea.

Murillo would no doubt add more quality to Enzo Maresca’s defence. He is good enough to compete for regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge.

At 23, Murillo has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent fit for the West London club’s needs next year.
