Chelsea are not expected to review the position of head coach Liam Rosenior even if the club fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Club officials currently consider Rosenior’s role secure as they continue to plan for the long term under the 41-year-old manager.
Rosenior only took charge of Chelsea in January following the departure of Enzo Maresca.
Because of that mid-season appointment, the club do not view the remainder of this campaign as the defining measure of his tenure.
Chelsea’s internal position is that Rosenior should be judged over a much longer period.
The coach signed a contract that runs until 2032, reflecting the club’s commitment to giving him time to build the team.
Sources indicate that Chelsea do not intend to carry out a formal performance review of Rosenior before the summer of 2027.
Qualification for the Champions League remains the club’s objective this season.
However, failure to reach that target would not automatically place Rosenior under threat.
Chelsea believe it would be unfair to judge the manager solely on results achieved after taking over midway through the campaign.
The only scenario that could change the club’s stance would be a dramatic collapse in form during the closing weeks of the season.
At present, there is no expectation within the club hierarchy that such a downturn will occur.
Chelsea still have several objectives to pursue before the season ends.
The club remain involved in the FA Cup and will face Port Vale in the quarter-finals.
They also remain within touching distance of the Premier League’s Champions League qualification places.
Chelsea currently sit just one point behind Liverpool in the race for fifth place.
The Premier League is widely expected to receive an additional Champions League qualification spot this season.
Chelsea could therefore still secure a place in Europe’s top competition with a strong finish.
Despite a difficult recent run of results, the club believe Rosenior has made a positive impact since his arrival.
Chelsea have recorded a slightly higher points-per-game average under Rosenior than under Maresca earlier in the season.
The club also recognise that the squad requires improvement in several areas.
Recruitment during the upcoming summer transfer window is viewed as a key step in strengthening the team.
Chelsea are expected to target at least one new central defender.
The club are also looking to add reinforcements in midfield and attack.
Goalkeeper Mike Penders is expected to return from his loan spell at Strasbourg and compete for the number one position.
Rosenior has acknowledged that mistakes have been made during his early months in charge.
However, Chelsea believe he is receptive to feedback and capable of adapting quickly.
The club’s hierarchy therefore remain confident that Rosenior can guide Chelsea forward as they attempt to rebuild and challenge consistently for major honours.
