Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Cole Palmer will be out of action for two to three weeks for Chelsea as the club manager his injury issues.
Palmer has played just 145 minutes of Premier League football this season due to an ongoing groin issue.
The 23-year-old withdrew from the warm-up against West Ham after feeling discomfort on August 22nd and sat out the following fixture with Fulham.
After scoring as a substitute against Brentford, Palmer was then withdrawn in the first-half of last weekend’s defeat at Manchester United. Following the clash, Maresca admitted the midfielder was not 100% fit.
Chelsea have now made the decision to rest Palmer for the upcoming schedule, targeting a return to action after October’s international break. He will miss this weekend’s clash with Brighton and the home date with Liverpool on October 4th.
“Yes, we decided to protect a little bit Cole. In terms of not letting his injury getting worse.
“We decided to rest him for two-three weeks until the international break to see if with that rest he can recover 100% and to be fit after the international break.
“I don’t think he needs surgery but it is just to manage the pain in his groin. We have decided to be a little bit conservative with him.”
