Chelsea confirm midfielder has had surgery after injury | OneFootball

Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder Dario Essugo has undergone successful surgery after sustaining a thigh injury on international duty.

Essugo picked up the issue while representing Portugal u-21 side during this month’s break. Surgery has been necessary for the 20-year-old, wiht Chelsea confirming the procedure. No timeframe has been put on his return to action.

“Midfielder Dario Essugo has undergone successful surgery today on his thigh,” a club statement read.

“The 20-year-old sustained the injury whilst on international duty for Portugal’s Under-21s.

“Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action and Dario will now begin his recovery at Cobham, supported by the club’s medical department.”

Esseugo joined Chelsea from Sporting Lisbon this summer for a fee of £18.5m. The highly-rated midfielder became Sporting’s youngest-ever debutant in 2021. Essugo featured three times at the FIFA Club World Cup in the summer but is yet to make his Premier League debut for Chelsea.
